Dr. Maxine Davis is a second-generation activist who is passionate about discovering how to end violence perpetration in romantic and intimate relationships. As a scholar of intimate partner violence and abuse (IPV/A), commonly referred to as "domestic violence". She was born and raised in North St. Louis and is a proud alum of Normandy Senior High in Ferguson, MO.
Dr. Davis is particularly focused on interventions to assist Black and Latino men in ending abusive behaviors within their romantic relationships. Her expertise spans the domains of interpersonal violence/abuse, health, spirituality, and multidimensional oppression.
In 2021, Dr. Davis was named the Chancellors Scholar for Inclusive Excellence in Intimate Partner Violence Prevention and Intervention by Rutgers University, where she serves as an Assistant Professor of Social Work. She is also one of four core faculty members at the Center for Research on Ending Violence. Her national work and research projects have been recognized and funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, The Louisville Institute, Catholics for Family Peace, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), and more. One of her favorite quotes is by Maya Angelou: "Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and how you do it".
In all the Dr. Davis accomplishes professionally, she makes it a priority to emphasize that this work is collaborative, supported by strong mentorship and divinely inspired.
